What we do – Children’s Homes
Over the years we have supported many children’s homes such as St Andrew’s in Mtunthama, Open Arms in Mangoche and Blantyre, Jacaranda House in Limbe and the Home of Hope in Mchinji (made famous by Madonna adopting David).
We supply clothing, blankets, bedding, baby cots, games and toys on a regular basis. Many of the baby clothes and blankets are knitted by Inner Wheel and Women’s Institute clubs from all over Yorkshire.
St Andrew’s Children’s Home, Mtunthama
St Andrew’s takes care of orphans from day old babies to teenagers attending secondary education. They try to be self-sufficient by growing much of their own food and rearing chickens. They are part of a wider St Andrew’s community which comprises a church, a hospital, a maize mill, a primary and a secondary school.
Open Arms Children’s Home, Mangochi and Blantyre
Open Arms is a children’s home that specialises in looking after orphan babies and children up to 2 years of age. We supply baby clothes, toys, and cots on a regular basis. The dedicated house mothers look after the children on a 3 shift system 24/7. The aim is for the children to be fostered and returned to their original village community.
